Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost if you are not using insurance or are choosing not to use your insurance benefits.
Health care providers are required to give patients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill before services are provided.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Your provider must give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your scheduled service.
If your bill is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges.
For questions about your rights, call 1-800-985-3059 or visit the CMS No Surprises website.
